The Spoken Cipher is a show about human to human communication. Embedded into the music is the frustration of being unable to communicate, the interweaving of thoughts and ideas expressed but unheard, and the harmony that results when we finally understand one another. Through call and response, juxtaposing musical ideas, interweaving melody and counter-melody, and poly-rhythmic hemiolas, the show portrays and supports a constant thematic throughline that can further be amplified with visual ideas such as field separation, sectional separation, and the antithesis of those ideas as we finally come together for a huge dance party and jam session.
