Description

When you can’t see through the dense, forest trees… when you are lost in the middle of of a high crop field… when you are flying in the clouds and don’t know how far the ground is… when you are underwater in the murky depths and can’t see what is behind you…

This production revolves around an ever looming and unspecified “Threat.” The music is heavily inspired by Bernard Harmann of the Hitchcock movie era. There is a gut-wrenching, electronic sound that envelopes the ensemble. This electronic sound, that represents the threat, is the only digital or synthetic sound of the music scape. The rest of the musical palette is orchestral and acoustic in nature all created from the front ensemble. A very unique take on a very dark show that is sure to grip your audience in utter terror.

The props (see show video below) represent the barriers and fortresses created to protect the performers from the threat.

Mvt. 1 Caught off guard.

Mvt. 2 Attempt to hide. Performers can manipulate props to create “bunkers” or “fortresses” to protect from the ever closing threat.

Mvt. 3 The Threat gets closer and closer as the performers try to escape. The sound grows bigger and bigger until it fully consumes them. Do they make it out alive?

Note: This show includes an arrangement of “Scene D’Amour” by Bernard Herrmann. Additional licensing and associated fees will apply but we’ll handle acquiring the licensing for you. Contact us with any questions.

“The Looming Threat” was originally commissioned for La Quinta HS (Westminster, CA) for their 2020 WGI and SCPA season. Please note that due to the indoor 2020 season being cut short, the show video below is of the unfinished production.
