With sounds of a city park, a busking piano player, and simple imagery of a chess game, this show is a simple yet grand story of what can happen when you drift into a daydream. Imagine a performer seated at a chess table waiting for a friend to play. Upon getting bored as they wait, they let the mind wander to create an immersive adventure. All of a sudden they are whirled and swirled about as they get sucked into the game, and what some may call a boring game becomes a matter of life and death! Featuring some technically challenging yet achievable and hand friendly music for the moderate to advanced ensemble, this show will be very fun for your performers and is an opportunity to let your visual designers creativity run wild! The only limit is your imagination.
The original production was designed around a circular stage with two levels. Though, not every school can build or obtain such a massive prop, watching the video will hopeful bring up great ideas for variations on the theme. When we did this show, we utilized this amazing prop, a visual ensemble to help maneuver it, a character to slip into the daydream, a park scene with chairs, tables, a normal sized chess board for before the daydream, and life sized chess pieces and chess board for during the daydream.
